Spay/Neuter Transport

Have an animal that needs spayed or neutered?

Over the years, we have saved the lives of thousands of animals.... all by preventing the births of thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens through our spay/neuter programs.  Helping fight the serious problem of pet overpopulation is one of our goals!

The Humane Society of Davidson County (HSDC) works with the Humane Society of the Piedmont (formerly known as Planned Pethood) to provide this low-cost transport service. The Humane Society of the Piedmont operates a high volume, low-cost, spay/neuter clinic with transport services to reach areas like Davidson County who do not have local low-cost clinics.  We are extremely grateful for their service!

Transport day takes place the third Wednesday of each month.  Animals are transported from the HSDC building in Lexington, NC to the Humane Society of the Piedmont in Greensboro, NC for surgery and returned the next day on transport. Animals must be brought to our building between 6:00 am and 7:30 am to make the transport. Pick-up is the next day at 11:30.

Anyone may use the transport!  Factors including income and employment status are irrelevant, unless you intend to apply for financial assistance.

In order to use the transport you must call HSDC at (336) 237-0131 and speak with one of our volunteers to make an appointment.

Please be patient in waiting for a response...our volunteers do their absolute best to get back to you in a timely manner.  Our waitlist is often several months out, and our call list is equally very long.  We receive a large volume of calls each day, so it may take several weeks to receive a response.  Please do not call multiple times and leave multiple messages!  If you have previously left a message, we promise we will get back to you!  Leaving multiple messages only causes there to be more phone calls to sort through and makes our process slower.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE!

Medical assistance

Need help affording surgery for your pet?  If you are currently receiving government assistance (food stamps, medicaid, social security) or experiencing financial hardship, you can apply for a reduced fee.

ALL ANIMALS THAT GO ON THE TRANSPORT MUST HAVE A RABIES AND DISTEMPER VACCINE!

If your pet has already received a Rabies and/or Distemper (FVRCP in cats) vaccine and is currently up to date (not overdue), simply bring the veterinary record with you at drop off and you will not have to pay for your pet to receive these services on transport.

IF YOU FORGET TO BRING THE RECORD AT DROP OFF WE MUST HAVE YOUR PET GET THE VACCINE ON THE TRANSPORT AT AN ADDITIONAL COST TO YOU!

If we do not have record of your pet's vaccines, even if they were recently given, we have no choice but to provide these services again to your pet - this is a policy of HSP that we must follow.  It will not harm your pet to receive an additional vaccine, even if one was just given.
