Why consider fostering?

Fostering a pet in need is one of the best ways you can help us save animals!  Because HSDC is a foster-based organization, we do not house animals at our building.  FOSTERS ARE OUR BACKBONE!  Without people like you to selflessly provide their love, time, and homes to these pets we wouldn't be able to save lives!

About Fostering

WE PAY FOR EVERYTHING!

You provide the home, time, and love...we'll take care of everything else! Fosters are NEVER required to pay out of pocket for the care of a foster pet! HSDC pays for food, supplies, medical care, and all other associated expenses.  While many fosters elect to help us out with costs, it is certainly not necessary.

You get to choose!

You have total control over what kinds of animals you want to foster!  Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, large dogs, small dogs...whatever you are most comfortable with.  It is always our foremost goal to place you with a pet that will do well in your household, so we factor in personality and the needs of each pet and foster parent.

afraid of commitment?

Lots of pet-owners start off by fostering!  Not sure if you can handle the work of a new puppy? Planning on moving but want the temporary companionship of a pet?  Not sure how your current pet will react to another pet in the household?  Fostering is a great opportunity to "dip your feet in" without the long term commitment!

Foster failures

If you fall in love with your foster pet, you have first dibs on adopting that pet!  While we encourage you to continue to open your heart to more animals that need fosters, we understand that sometimes fosters "fail" and can't say goodbye to their newfound friend.  That's okay!  Putting pets in loving homes is the ultimate goal, and there's nothing wrong with providing that to a pet in need!
